Title: Fortune b/w The Eyes Of Men

Label: Gilgongo Records
Catalog Number: GGGR-032
Format: 7"
$7 North America / $9 World
mp3

An on going project of prolific artist John Wiese, SISSY SPACEK has taken many forms: intricate collages of the small, quiet, details that trickle through in between "sound", drums spliced and severed, 18 piece "noise" orchestras, performances that included nothing but the act of shattering glass as source sound to ones that result in broken basses and bleeding throats, etc. You never know how overblown and explosive or incredibly quiet and intricate one specific release might be. On "Fortune", Wiese has assembled a trio with Charlie Mumma (drums) and Corydon Ronnau (vocals): crafting 26 songs of grind-core noise (like a Crossed Out playing with malfunctioning gear). Corresponding singles also released on A Dear Girl Called Wendy (Italy) and Ketchup Cavern (Canada).

Title: Poison Hands

Label: Gilgongo Records
Catalog Number: GGGR-009
Format: CD
$10 North America / $12 World

Full-length recording from Vancouver, Canada's no-wave take on Unwound. A reissue of a double 3-inch CDR, originally released by Not Not Fun. After nearly 30 CDr and cassette releases over the past two years, this was the gem that shined through. Noisy and catchy and fun. "Gnarly skronk-shred jams that morph into free shriekback post-jazz dead-zones." Featuring members of Channels 3+4 and In-Flux and the head-honcho behind the beyond rad short-run / vanity label, Isolated Now Waves.

Title: Live During War Crimes #3

Label: Release The Bats
Catalog Number: Release The Bats #38
Format: CD
$14 North America / $16 World

The final installment in the Live During War Crimes trilogy, this one being one of the last releases ever from Yellow Swans. Four unedited live sets from the bands last year in existence. Included are the PDX Pop Now set (July 2007), a live soundtrack to a film by Avalon Kalin (February 2008), a set from the Picador, Iowa City (October 2007), and the final US show in Chicago (June 2008). Big sounding stuff, very loud and very dense, with the melodic guitarwork being more prominent just as on the last couple of releases. Epic, sky-shredding beauty in a total playtime of 78 minutes. Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk at Stereophonic Mastering. Comes in a gatefold sleeve with black felt, cover art by Ryan Boyle.

Artist: Raccoo-oo-oon
Title: Raccoo-oo-oon

Label: Release The Bats
Catalog Number: Release The Bats #43
Format: CD
$14 North America / $16 World

Everything's coming to an end with the swansong from Iowa City's Raccoo-oo-oon. Following up last years critically acclaimed Behold Secret Kingdom (RTB/Not Not Fun), the final album takes everything up a notch and shows a band taking their last breath and laying down the last bricks in their fairly short history.

The album blends together all different parts of Raccoo-oo-oons discography, taking cues from the utter freeform punk madness of The Cave Of Spirits Forever (Time Lag), building something completely new of the era that was Behold Secret Kingdom and yet delivering echoes of the eclectic Mythos Folkways recordings. The album reeks of desperation and a feeling of going down with nothing to loose at all. A fucked up future-prog mayhem that is all over the place and at no known place at all at the same time.

Genuinely uncomfortable, desperate and just beautiful, this album will surely be remembered as the most important recording that Racco-oo-oon ever put to tape. Minds are melting, new grounds are covered and things will never be the same.

A playtime of close to 75 minutes over 7 tracks.
Mastered by Pete Swanson.
Mini gatefoldsleeve with black felt.
2xLP version on Not Not Fun.
The band members are now playing in acts such as Wet Hair, Trash Dog and Pukers.

Artist: Wet Hair
Title: Dream

Label: Release The Bats
Catalog Number: Release The Bats #47
Format: CD
$14 North America / $16 World

Wet Hair is Shawn Reed and Ryan Garbes from the now defunct Raccoo-oo-oon. It started out as a soloproject of Shawn but after a while Ryan joined in as well. After several tapes and a 12", the duo is now unleashing Dream, their first fullength album. Four long tracks of analog synth atmosphere and industrial trance punk. Sure some Raccoo-oo-oon echoes can be heard if putting an ear close to the speaker, but Wet Hair is in many ways different. Melodic, upbeat, focused, dark, warm, cold, catchy, and confusing at the same time. Hints of everything from Suicide and Public Image Ltd to Spacemen 3 shines through. Dream has a strong nostalgic feel, fragments from the past is passing by and at the same time we get a strange glimpse of the future... Glowing stuff.

Artist: Ducktails
Title: Backyard

Label: Release The Bats
Catalog Number: Release The Bats #48
Format: CD
$14 North America / $16 World

Another missive of gloriously murky tropical lo-fi garage surf pop from Ducktails, aka Matt Mondanile, this cd collecting tons of older out of print material from cassettes: the '1992' demo, recorded in 2007, a split tape from a little later on and the way out of print Ducktails II. Even more warped and warbly than the Not Not Fun full length, these tracks drift and float through a hazy sonic dreamworld, slipping from looped cassette tape psychedelic calypso, to moody, sludgey bedroom balladry, to fuzzy proto garage rock, to dizzying super distorted sonic collages, to far out glistening new wave sparkle, to disembodied otherworldly Appalachia, to lonely sun dappled country twang, to lush lo-fi drum machine driven power pop, to dark brooding minimal indie jangle, to cinematic, almost Morricone sounding soundscapery, to super distorted GBV sounding fractured fragmented ADD pop, to hushed spaced out new age shimmer, all held together by that weird warped production, which wreathes everything in a washed out muted glow, like someone turned down the treble, or cut up the tweeters in your speakers with an exacto knife, the result is muddy and blurry and smeary and so gorgeous. And be sure to stick around for the 12+ minute closing track, merely an excerpt of a much longer track, but it could be our favorite, an extended slow burning space drone, layered and textured, super distorted and effected, growing more so as it unfurls, eventually the sound begins to blow out, the notes begin to crumble, revealing a warm glowing center, surrounded by slowly decaying buzz and crunch! - Aquarius

Title: Woods Family Creeps

Label: Time-Lag Records
Catalog Number: TLR-RR-002
Format: CD
$14 North America / $16 World

Newest incarnation of NYC's wondrous Woods, as the trio of Jeremy Earl, Jarvis Taveniere, and G Lucas Crane. For sure the finest yet from these folks... lysergic & infectiously bent acidfolk mashed into Faust IV style electronically dosed pop grooving, all awash in odd studio effects, motorik percussion, cracked fuzz, unique vocal gush, twisted lyrics, and burning psych jams... plus enough sweet hooks to get yr next freakout party moving right. Hell yes, its a wicked one. Digital version of Red Records #2. Same music as vinyl version, but packed in a mini lp style heavy gatefold cover with somewhat different full color art, japanese woven inner sleeve, etc. Edition of 1000 copies.

2009 release.

Title: Gesa

Label: Avant!
Catalog Number: AV!005
Format: 7"
$7 North America / $9 World

Cool Italian dudes Avant! recently released a 7" by German Cassetten 82/Hot Wave outfit Krysmopompas. The a-side, GeSa, is a beautiful line drawing of the graceful movements traced on the dusty floor of an abandoned hall by a mechanical bride and an electrical groom as they orbit around each other in their clockwork ballet while a crooning ghost dressed in an ill-fitting tuxedo provides dada admonitions from his pulpit. It sounds grainy, derelict, metallic and forsakenly beautiful like all the best German post-punk. We totally heart it. - 20jazzfunkgreats

2009 release, 3 available.

Artist: Merzbow
Title: Anicca

Label: Cold Spring
Catalog Number: CSR107CD
Format: CD
$12 North America / $14 World

The first track on Merzbow's latest opus was recorded at Tin Pan Alley studios, London, on 20th April 2008 - the day after his momentous performance at ULU. Akita created an astounding and very unique 20-minute track, playing freestyle drums over his trademark noise. The final 2 tracks were created at Munemi House in Tokyo. Another fine example of why Merzbow is the undisputed King of Japanese Noise! 58 minutes in total.

2008 release.

Title: The Black Post Society

Label: Cold Spring
Catalog Number: CSR85CD
Format: CD
$12 North America / $14 World

"The Black Post Society" embraces and accepts the depression of not having anything left to hunt. The mask without a face to hold. The depression of the hunter after the deer is killed. It is better to be hungry than to have eaten. As fantasy shatters under the whip of reality, erotic malaise settles in the nest of the mind inverting this dormant fuel to rekindle the endless cycle of sexual chaos. Black Industrial / Power Noise from this highly respected US act!

2008 release.
